Pete's Details
About Pete
Known within his industry as a lifetime aviator, Pete has cemented his position as Canada’s top ranked competition pilot and one of the country’s top solo aerobatic performers. At just 6-weeks old, Pete McLeod received his first flight in the family plane. A mere six years later and Pete would frequently sit on his father’s lap and hold the control column by himself. It was from this point on that McLeod would pursue his interest in flight training at Harv’s Air Service in Steinback, later qualifying for his private pilot’s license by the age of 16.
Although he had yet to acquire an automobile license, flying was already becoming a familiar experience for him. While other students practiced takeoffs and landings, he was already performing basic aerobatic maneuvers. Having officially earned his aerobatic-instructor rating at the age of 18, Pete began to take competition more seriously inside his very first high-performance aerobatic aircraft, the Pitts Special.
With his outstanding finish against both National and World team members, Pete joined the air show circuit in 2006 and in 2007 became one of the youngest pilots in the world to hold an unrestricted surface level aerobatic waiver for high performance aerobatics. In 2008, Pete was chosen to participate in the Red Bull Air Race World Championships, making him not only the youngest rookie ever to qualify for the Red Bull Air Race, but the first Canadian.
