THE RED BULL LINECATCHER WILL ONCE AGAIN GRACE ITS PRESENCE ON THE RUGGED TERRAIN OF VARS, FRANCE, JANUARY 9 THROUGH THE16, 2010
Blown away by the success of Red Bull Linecatcher 2009, Red Bull once again celebrates the colors of freestyle backcountry skiing in the French Alps. This year, the cream of the crop of worldwide backcountry skiers will converge on the renowned resort of Vars La Forêt Blanche in the Haute-Alpes.
The song remains the same: The stage is set with world renowned, artistic skiers who will unleash their talents on a vertical canvas of inspiring natural terrain spiced up by kickers placed throughout the run. After captivating the spectators of la Plagne last winter, the Red Bull Linecatcher will take hold of Vars resort on the spectacular 3000 meters (10,000 feet) high North facing Eyssina Ridge. This famous freeride spot is ideal for “The Show”: northern exposure preserves the snow quality, the steepness enables positive aggressive skiing, and a multitude of vertical drops and kickers allow for great aerial fantasy. To top it off, the natural amphitheater of the Eyssina ridge is clearly visible across the resort, providing spectators a view at the height of the event.
Three expert judges will score the best of three runs among fifteen competitors from North America, Australia, Sweden, Germany and France, which will include Red Bull athletes as, Sven KUEENLE (Germany), Sean PETTIT (Canada), Richard PERMIN (France), and Tanner Hall (Tanner will be one of the judge (USA)).
A qualifier stage is also scheduled, allowing aspiring skiers to compete with the selected backcountry skiers. This contest will take place prior to the main competition at a nearby location that will allow two hungry skiers out of the lot to qualify. To be eligible reputable athletes will receive either a wildcard position or be selected in an online video contest which will be judged via the web.
