The participants – randomly selected by the on-line lottery system– will compete in individual speed trials on a flat ice surface in a traditional indoor hockey rink. The top participants who demonstrate skating skill, agility, strategy, and strength will move on to participate in the main event in Quebec City, where consecutive heats of four skaters will race head-to-head in a double elimination bracket (based on time).
