A Place To Reflect

A Place to Reflect, by Malcolm Levy will make its Canadian Premiere during Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Toronto 2011 at 381 Projects.

The installation looks at the concept of escapism and reflection, allowing the viewer to experience these sensations through photographic abstraction and individual reflection. Using projectors and reflective surfaces, visitors will be fully immersed in colour, light, and reflection becoming part of the art by means of the mirrors. Ambient sound will fill the space, giving permission for visitors to step inside the abstract, in turn, experiencing visual and auditory language in a new, hybrid way.

A Place to Reflect as experience:
Using projectors and reflective surfaces, the audience will be fully immersed in colourful, meditative visuals. Ambient sound will fill the installation space, harnessing a certain tone and reflective reaction. Text from Wilhelm Worringerʼs, Abstraction and Empathy will be spliced into the soundscape, penetrating the viewerʼs experience, and further contextualizing the experience.

Audience members will be given white painter outfits to wear when entering. Once reflected through the projections, the suits act as an added layer to the installation, helping to create the reflections and imagery. The images will be projected at equidistant points around the room, creating central symmetry throughout the space.
