Red Bull Canada is excited to welcome Triathlete Kirsten Sweetland to it's athlete program. The 22-year-old Sweetland is a Victoria, B.C. native that has been competing in International Triathlon Union (ITU) competitions since 2005. Since then she has taken part in 23 events, placed top ten in 13 of them with silver medals at both the 2010 ‘Under 23’ World Championship and Premium Pan American Cup.

Kirsten’s gruelling training and competition schedule require her to be at the top of her game constantly, so the symbiotic relationship with Red Bull Canada was second nature. “Red Bull products help me on a near daily basis,” explains Kirsten, “I train at 5:30am and I like to drink a Red Bull to get me going so early in the morning. I also use the energy shots after warm up for a really hard training session. It gives me a boost and makes me feel lighter when running fast, perhaps it’s the wings!? When racing I use an energy shot 5 minutes before we are called to the line to get me firing for the most intense and important part of the race, which is the start, and I also add one in my drink bottle on the bike.”

“I am excited to reap the benefits of being a Red Bull athlete which are unique in that Red Bull helps the athlete achieve their potential through means of training facilities, camps, strength and conditioning, coaching etc. anything to help create a better athlete. They are involved in the process and I am excited to share results knowing that we achieved them together.”

Kirsten is currently taking advantage of the Southern Hemisphere’s summer climate and training in Australia. Her first major event is the Mooloolaba World Cup this weekend and then the first World Championship Series event is in Sydney in early April. In May she will head to Yokohama, Japan before setting up race staging camp in Davos, Switzerland for the European WCS events throughout the summer. “My biggest focus for the year will be the World Championship Series,” Kirsten outlines, “I am particularly looking for good performances in London WCS and the Grand Final in Beijing.” Her whirlwind travel schedule will not see her back in Canada until September.
