Sean Pettit is in Aspen, Colorado this week to see if he is going to have to renovate and expand his trophy cabinet. The well-decorated 19-year-old freeskier doesn’t usually compete in the contemporary sense, he usually showcases his extensive skill set in the backcountry of his hometown of Whistler, BC, in front of a camera and a handful of friends. Powder Magazine celebrates this category of skiing every year with the Powder Magazine Video Awards. For over a decade these industry accolades have been considered the very pinnacle of freeskiing. For the last three years Pettit has been a force to be reckoned with accumulating numerous nominations and awards:
Winner:
Breakthrough Performer 2009
Won Full Throttle Award 2010
Male Performance of the Year 2010
Best Powder Segment for ‘The Way I See It’ by MSP 2011
Nominated:
Best Line 2010
Male Performance of the Year 2011
Best Natural Air 2011
2012 Nominations:
Male Performance of the Year
Best Natural Air
With one last full day of waiting for the verdict Sean explains his mindset, "I'm very stoked and excited to even be nominated and recognized again for these awards. It's always exciting and the anticipation can get intense."
You can check out all the contenders at PVA Nominees. The awards are being held tonight, January 25,2012, at the Hotel Jerome as a kick off to the Winter X Games which get underway tomorrow.
