Why Red Bull MegaHurtz?
Live P.A., Live Acts, Live Visuals, Live Dancers. Why wouldn't I? this event brings together all the best elements of electronic music, performance, great talent and a great nurturing environment.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Dirt, Bass, Drums.
You're also a graphic designer / visual artist, does you art and music intersect, or do you like to merge both creative outlets?
I consider myself first and foremost to be a multi-disciplined artist, but also a curator of culture and nucleus personality that likes to bring ideas to fruition physically and present them in public forum.
I run an art gallery in Gastown (www.cataloggallery.org), I have a creative agency that does commercial work for independent businesses (design, branding, video work, scoring). I throw parties (Turbo Crunk, Bridge Burner, Etc) and I make music. I have been doing music for many years under different monikers and as a creative I need to be engaged by conversations in all disciplines. While there are certainly differences in the outputs and final products, I consider myself to be a product of North America though the transition from analog to digital culture, Live P.A. being one of the few outlets that actually still holds both ideas seamlessly.
My ideas about music and art come from Punk Rock, Graffiti, Raves, Hip-Hop and Skateboarding, and not so much from my education or the impact of the digital age, and so for me it is very important to have a balanced output as an artist, retaining control of my output, and recognizing the history in my own work while moving forward in design, music, arts and industry.
Being an independent artist, can you offer advice to other aspiring artists/musicians looking for a platform?
Be unapologetic about your taste. Keep in a practice so that when you have good ideas you can deliver them with clarity. Use the tools available for you at any time & don't dwell too much on what other people hold as their standards. Some of the best things come from nothing. Be honest with yourself about your work.
