Ollie Contest was back on Saturday, March 5 at Val Saint-Come, Quebec, during Atlas's annual snowboard competition, the Quiksilver Atlas Open. At $100 per feet for the winner, all the riders from the competition wanted to get in on the action. Taking place at the bottom of the hill, Oliie Contest saw over twenty riders jumping over the horizontal bar that was at 4' as the starting level.
The rule was simple: In order to stay in the competition, you had to clear the bar and land your jump. If you didn't manage to do it before the bar moved up, you're out. Over the course of the next 15-20 minutes, the bar progressively moved up to 8', losing many competitors along the way.
We moved the bar up to 8.5' with only a few participants remaining, and only 2 cleared it. At 9', this was it: the final showdown, mano-a-mano. Chris Collard went first, arcing over the bar effortlessly and sticking his landing perfectly. The crowd erupted in celebration. Maxence Parrot had to save this one by clearing it, which would bring the bar up to an insane 9.5', but just couldn't get the pop out of his board. In the end, Chris Collard was named champion of the 2011 Ollie Contest, and was handed a novelty cheque for $900.
