A native of California, Brad Gerlach picked up a surfboard for the first time at ten years old in the town of Encinitas because like people often do with tortillas, he saw Jesus’ face in it. Aside from being a total hippy, he’s the founder and commissioner of the National Surf League, Brad has been regarded as one of surfing’s biggest stars, winning several events before saying goodbye to contest surfing in the 1990’s. A bit of fate-tempter, Brad has taken to locating and conquering some of the best and biggest waves, riding a 68-foot wave in Todos Santos. Cool, show off.
A cool thing Raph can say that maybe 2 other guys can is that he once surfed carrying a lit torch, one that went on to eventually light the Olympic flame. He’s also the Mayor of Tofino, just kidding, but he grew up with the beach for a backyard and might as well be. He runs an all-ages surf school and a huge advocate of Canadian surfing, like us. Also like us, he enjoys messing with people’s misconceptions about Canada. He’s a proud father of three, a pretty humble dude, and definately not a Belieber.
