The 2011/2012 snowboard season officially opened with the Burton Global Open Series stop in New Zealand. Canadians Mark McMorris and Seb Toutant took 1st and 2nd in slopestyle respectively.

In the men's finals McMorris barely squeeked past Sebastien Toutant with a 90.90 to Seb's 90.55. Norwegian rider Stale Sandbech finished up in third with a score of 89.78. "Today was awesome," McMorris said after the event. "I'm so stoked to be on the podium with some good friends. Everybody rode insane."
