When asked to select ten best bits of content I was, naturally, dumbfounded. There have been so many spine tingling artists and characters who have passed through the studios this year. We've welcomed old friends and partied with new faces a la Skream and Benga who played our first birthday bash in March. Roots Manuva spent a week putting together his album and Wretch 32 performed as part of our collaborative Roland Sessions. Red Bull Music Academy graduate Amenta spent time early in the year comprising her fantastic EP and Portuguese kuduro bass music collective Buraka Som Sistema worked with a host of London artists for their second album Komba. The dust has settled on the control room where the incredibly talented Jessie Ware spent two weeks hiding out in the studio creating her debut album with maestro Dave Okumu (The Invisible).
As well as live artists recording tracks we’ve also opened the doors to the wonderful Pinboard Blog as part of their Rehearsal Rooms sessions and hosted their first ever The Suite performance with Full Crate and Mar. Jamal, Liam and Georgia from SB.TV have touched down to film interviews and live performances with everyone from Ms Dynamite & Labrinth to Rebecca Ferguson. MTV Live continue to be part of the furniture inviting everyone from Lethal B to Jamie Woon down to jam.
We were also proud to be part of hip hop history and make the national news for the UK launch party for Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey. There have been multiple fashion events in the gallery space with House Of Organza organised by stylist Kim Howells, team Bounty’s Forbidden Dance Capsule T shirt launch, not forgetting up and coming designers Stööki who launched their jewellery brand and the huge Catwalk Studio event. Creative industries magazine and online hub It’s Nice That transformed the space with a series of thought provoking talks touching on everything from activism to innovation and ownership. Our schedule of events for 2012 is looking bigger than ever so be sure to check our events page in the new year for listings.
Before we leap off into the best bits of content we would like to two ticks to big up some of the fantastic writers, film makers and photographers who’ve helped keep the website fruitful and full of engaging colourful content: Alice Peperell, Candice Pires, Mahta Hassanzadeh, Dan Medhurst, Clockwise, Kieran Yates,Billy Rowlinson, Aled Pritchard, Dougie Mackie, Laura Martin, Kara Simsek, Steve Stills, Rosie Rogers and Vice. Advanced apologies to anyone we’ve forgotten.
