Hey Lunice, can you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm 22, from Montreal, Quebec and I love rap music.
Congrats on the release of the Stacker Upper EP on LuckyMe Records. What made you want to release this EP?
Thanks! Releasing my first solo EP was one of my biggest goals since day one. I've always had the idea of releasing an EP. I felt that I wouldn't work on it until I feel that I'm ready and that the sound I'm experimenting on at that moment would make sense for a release. Now my next goal is to release another record!
You are so energetic on stage, not to mention your fancy footwork in LunicexLAZERSWORDS Gucci Sweatshirt . Do you feel live producers / DJs should look to become performers on stage?
Not really. Producers & DJs should do whatever seems to fit for their set. I never intended to "perform" on stage, it just sort of happened after numerous alcoholic drinks and me going in front wildin' out with the crowd and having the time of my life, haha. I guess since I used to be a full-time B-Boy/dancer, I was naturally able to do cool moves which to me seemed like "whatever, I'm drunk" dancing, but to people it seemed like "whoa cool moves!". I'm used to performing infront of crowds at breakdance shows,so I've gotten used to sending a certain type of energy to the crowd and having them respond back in the same way.
What got you involved with Red Bull Music Academy in the first place?
I've heard about the Red Bull Music Academy way back in 2006 but that's around the time I just started making music so I was just way too intimidated by its greatness, haha. So I decided to forget about it and go back to the drawing board, but ended up forgetting about it completely. Then four years later, a friend of mine reminded me of Red Bull Music Academy and at that time I already had a good enough amount of music released. I felt a lot more confident in what I was doing so I gave it a shot and got it!
Destination Tokyo Tour with PrisonGarde, Jacques Greene and ANGO is going across Canada this February, and March can you tell us what this tour is all about?
It's the whole family! They're like my mentors because they practically discovered me and brought me to where I am now. So it's going to be a really good night because we're all good friends and have the same taste in music. Every club night we're going to do on this tour is going to be consistent and good vibes!
Can you describe your experience with Red Bull Muisc Academy in three words?
What...Just...Happened...?!
What can we expect from Lunice in 2011?
A lot of releases with pappers and vocalists of all kinds (with music videos!)...bossanova collaborations, more Diplo & Lunice projects, more interesting collaborations that I shouldn't name out yet. I'm planning to release a new EP but I'll just leave it at that :)
