Canada’s top party rocker DJs ignited Toronto club goers, 15 minutes at a time, but it was DJ Drastik from Kingston, ON that create sonic infamy and was crowned Red Bull Thre3Style 2010 Champion on Saturday, March 13 at Sound Academy.
Knocking out 2009 winner DJ Cosmo from Halifax, DJ Drastik will move on and will represent Canada in the World Final in Paris, France in December 2010. “I'm so excited to go to the World Final. On stage I didn't know I was going to win. I'm so pumped,” said DJ Drastik about his win.
Among the ten DJs who rocked the house, DJ Drastik impressed the panel of judges which consisted of the industry’s most reputable critics with his creativity, track selection, skills, stage presence and audience response walking away with a $2500 prize purse and title of the nation’s most versatile DJ. MTV’s Johnny Hockin, who sat on the panel of judges, said “it was really tight tonight. As a DJ you need to connect with the crowd as fast as possible. To be a DJ you have to know what works on people and tonight it was really evident. DJ Drastik brought DJ battle techniques to the stage - he took one vibe and moved right on to the next which kept the crowd going.” DJ M Kutz from London, ON came a close second while 2009 winner and Halifax native DJ Cosmo along with DJ IV from Moncton both took home third as they dropped their best sets and made the ultimate party-goers dance to the beats all night long but it was DJ Drastik who couldn't be touched.
Hosted by Canadian omni-genre musician Curtis Santiago, A-Trak, World DMC champion at the age of 13 and Kanye West’s touring DJ; KLEVER, two-time US DMC champ; and Skratch Bastid, one of Canada’s most accomplished turntablists also were on hand to raise the roof and pump up the crowd.
